The International India Jazz Festival 2010 will be the single largest Jazz festival ever to be held in the history of India’s live music scene. Featuring more than 120 bands, (60 foreign bands and 60 of India’s best bands), the 3 day event will be held every year in March starting 2010. The festival will feature over 150 concerts, jam sessions and music clinics in the genre of Jazz and its many derivatives, and will also showcase jazz’s fusion with Rock, Pop and Ethnic music styles. The IJF is a partner of the 10 member Asian Jazz Festivals Organization (www.ajfo.com) that has agreed to cooperate to provide their visiting musicians touring opportunities within the regional festivals while helping reduce overall costs for each participating festival.
The IJF is being established in India in technical collaboration with The International Java Jazz Festival, one of the largest Jazz festivals in the world. “The IJF aims to position indian music as India’s most enjoyed cultural export, after curry” says Sachin Gopalan, an NRI from Jakarta, who has been closely working with the annual Java Jazz Festival (www.javajazzfestival.com) since its inception in 2004 and plotted to bring it to India for the enjoyment of music lovers in India.
